TEAS 7 Math: Your Complete Study Hub for 2026
By Dr. Priya Sharma, Pharm.D. · Updated April 13, 2026 · 12 min read
The TEAS 7 Math section is worth 22% of your composite score — and it's the section where students improve the fastest. After tutoring 300+ TEAS students, I can tell you: the math on this test isn't hard. It's repetitive. The same 5-6 question types show up on every single exam. If you learn the patterns, you'll stop losing points on problems you already know how to solve.
This hub brings together every math resource we've built — organized in the exact order you should study them. Whether you've got 2 weeks or 2 months, start here. For the full picture of all four TEAS sections, see our Ultimate TEAS 7 Study Guide.

What's Actually Tested (and How Often)
ATI splits Math into two sub-categories. Here's the breakdown with approximate question counts based on what our students report:
Numbers & Algebra (≈56% — ~19 questions)
- Fractions & decimals — converting, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, ordering
- Ratios & proportions — cross-multiplication, unit rates, scaling
- Percentages — percent of a number, percent change, fraction/decimal/% conversions
- Order of operations (PEMDAS)
- Basic algebraic equations — solving for x, translating word problems
Measurement & Data (≈44% — ~15 questions)
- Metric conversions — kg↔g↔mg, L↔mL, cm↔m↔km
- Metric ↔ standard — 1 kg = 2.2 lbs, 1 inch = 2.54 cm
- Dosage calculations — the nursing-specific "how many tablets?" problems
- Data interpretation — reading tables, bar charts, line graphs
- Statistical measures — mean, median, mode, range
Your Deep-Dive Math Study Guides
We've built a dedicated guide for every high-frequency math topic on the TEAS. Each one has worked examples, mnemonics, and strategies you won't find in generic prep books:

Recommended Study Order
Don't study randomly. Each topic builds on the previous one — here's the path that gets the fastest results:
- Week 1: Fractions & Decimals — the foundation for everything else
- Week 1-2: Ratios & Proportions — cross-multiplication is the most reusable skill
- Week 2: Dosage Calculations — now just apply proportions to nursing scenarios
- Week 3: Percentages & metric conversions (use the formulas from "How to Pass Math")
- Week 3-4: Algebra & data interpretation — these have the lowest frequency, study last
- Ongoing: Fill-in-the-Blank practice — mix into your routine from Week 2 onward
The Top 5 Math Mistakes I See Every Week
- Not simplifying fractions — 6/8 and 3/4 are both answer choices. Only the simplified one is "correct."
- Flipping the wrong fraction when dividing — it's always the second fraction that gets flipped (KCF).
- Misreading proportion labels — tablets on top-left MUST match tablets on top-right.
- Confusing "tenths" with "tens" on rounding questions — 0.X vs X0.
- Spending 4+ minutes on one question — flag it, move on, come back if you have time.
Calculator Strategy for the TEAS 7
Yes, you get an on-screen calculator — but it's not a silver bullet. Here's how to use it wisely:
- Use it for: Multi-step multiplication/division, double-checking your fraction→decimal conversions, and verifying your cross-multiplication.
- Don't use it for: Simple addition/subtraction, basic fractions you've memorized (1/4 = 0.25), or anything you can do faster mentally.
- Pro tip: The TEAS calculator doesn't have a fraction button. To divide fractions, you have to convert them to decimals first (numerator ÷ denominator). Practice this workflow before test day.
